I was riding around the lake and happened upon this gentleman who built his own steam engine for his boat. He even started it up for us. Has a steam whistle and everything. Cool!

Yup, there's a whole community of folks who build those. I've seen some pretty sweet ones put in painstaking crafted homemade wooden boats and some just chucked in rotting fiberglass hulls. I shall build one someday...

How many hours did it take to start up?

When I rolled by, it seemed he was just starting it up. It only seems to take a couple of minutes until the propeller was spinning and he sounded the whistle. Then, he turned it off. Of course, I don’t know how long it really took to build boiler pressure from a cold start.
